The Presidents Corner

Like most shooters, I was happy to just come out and shoot and didn’t have the time or the desire to get any more involved than that. I had all I needed or wanted a place to shoot. But, things are never that simple and I came to understand that in order to have that “place to shoot” I had to work for it. There was a time when if things needed a coat of paint, there would be a painting party, people would come to do the work, have a picnic, joke around and “get the job done.” Now we expect someone else to do it for us. We must reclaim that pride we, as individuals and as members of a group, once had in our club and our facilities. We must reclaim the responsibility of caring about and maintaining our equipment and facilities. We must each do what we can, and we can each give something; time, money, or effort to make ourselves at part of a club because if we are not a part of the club then there is no club, just another business. To paraphrase President Kennedy, “Ask not what your club can do for you but what you can do for your club.” It is a time when we must put aside individual and group concerns and work together for the club as a whole, no “group,” no individual will be left out or overlooked. It is a time of challenge, a time when we must to ready and open to new ways of doing things. We must work with other groups and organizations, we need to make people welcome at our range and within our groups. We need people; we need to continue to expand our membership. Game & Fish will help us improve the range but we need much more than that, we need the help of our members. We have many, many openings and many areas that need people to “get the job done.” In short, either we do things ourselves or we have to pay for someone to do it.

Respectfully,

Don “Doc” Orblom
